Advancing Beefmaster Cattle

Through Proven Genetics & Performance

Kelley Genetics

J.P. Kelley grew up in Rehobeth, Alabama, where farming was more than work — it was a way of life. He started out helping his dad in the fields back in 1986, and when his father became ill in 2009, J.P. stepped in to take over the family’s small cattle herd. In 2011, J.P. and his wife, Linda, bought their first Beefmasters, and what began as a small herd has continued to grow ever since. Along the way, their family has grown too — with two wonderful daughters, two great sons-in-law, and six grandchildren who keep life full and lively.

In 2023, the journey took an exciting new step when longtime family friend Carey Slay joined J.P. and Linda to form Kelley Genetics, LLC. Together, they share a big dream: to raise Beefmasters that combine tradition with the very best in modern genetics and feeding practices — tools not often seen in the Southeast. Carey knew there would be a lot to learn, but with the Kelley family’s experience, strong facilities, and a shared vision for the future, it’s a challenge everyone has embraced with excitement.

At Kelley Genetics, we believe the best days are still ahead. We recently completed building a feed efficiency test site to help identify the strongest genetics, and we look forward to growing relationships with both commercial cattlemen and purebred breeders who share our passion for the Beefmaster breed. For us, it’s about family, hard work, and a genuine love for these cattle.
